Speed of Audio-Scope on old phones

Hi,
I want to use Phyphox in my class. Because not everyone has a smartphone and it might make sense to use phones without WhatsApp an so on, I want to use my old ones:
Namely a CAT B15Q (android 4.4.2) and mobistel Cynus T1 (android 4.1.1) and others which I will collect from my friends.

The students should investigate sounds and find out, that higher frequencies have a higher number of oscillations per time. Therefore I use the audi-scope.

On my new phone it works perfectly. On the old phones there is a time shift of 6-7 seconds. That means:
1. switching on scope shows noise
2. I switch on the sound ( I whistle)
3. I see noise.
4. 6-7 seconds later the oscillations of my whispering appear.
5. stop whisteling
6. several seconds later (maybe again 6-7 seconds) the oscillations disappear.

Question: What are possible ways to speed up the reaction? I already changed the time windows from 10 to 5 ms, but that did not change the beahaviour noticeable. Using smaller or higher time windows would make it to complicated to count the oscillations.

Hi Florian,

Sebastian will certainly follow up on your performance issues. Could you submit the information on these two devices to our database by the “white” experiment at the very end of the main menu. AFAICS, these are not yet listed…

Audio is quite a lot of data and your devices appear to struggle keeping up with the supply. Please find attached a .phyphox file with a reduced sample rate. It should end up in the category “Custom”. Devices tend to ignore the setting, however, we could give it a shot…

If you do not see an effect, you could try different rates for “<audio rate="11025">” like 8000, 16000, 22050.

I have uploaded the white experiments.
I was able to test the custom experiment on the B15Q. I navigated to phyphox.org and was able to go to the forums, download the custom version by directly opening it in phyphox. The speed is increased, it takes now a second or so.

On the other phone the navigation on the webpage did not appear/work, therefore I entered phyphox.org/forums . I needed to download it to the downloadfolder, than I could open it in phyphox.
Again roughly one second delay. That is for whistling okay, for the sound of hitting a glass maybe not.

Thanks so far, I will test the other settings later.

If your old smartphones are connected to a WiFi, you could import the experiments by a QR-Code via [+] in phyphox.

The analysis part could be potentially optimized to your needs: which frequencies should be visualized, so what maximum duration would be sufficient?

Sorry for the maybe stupid question. I can find the QR-Code part in the program, but how do I create the QR-Code for the experiment?
I would change the .phyphox file using notepad++ , upload it to the phone and load it in phyphox.

Edit: I found this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPhhJGdXypg and have seen the qr code generator in the editor.

If you tap on .phyphox attachments in this forum, you could select the QR-Code option. Unless you put the entire experiment into QR-Code(s), it is just a hyperlink to the file.

So this is the version having the remote control fixed, but not suitable for slow phones. It works for remote control, but not for the slow phone.

When checking your new version I was using the phone but not the PC. There there was no qr-code.

Now I found the great way to download it by using the PC and the phone together. Thumbs up to the person with that idea!

Err… the two .phyphox files in this thread are identical except for the remote control part. That's strange…
